Just a Thought
First off, let me say that this post has absolutely no racial undertones, but is simply an observation based on culture alone.
A quote from Wikipedia:
"Though there is controversy over the exact date horses were first ridden, the best estimate is that horses first were domesticated approximately 5000 years ago."
Ok, so we are all very aware that there were cowboys and indians riding horses hundreds of years ago, and before them Spaniards were riding them. We know of Ghengis Khan and his clan riding them, and ancient Persians. This is all common knowledge by any standard.
So why in the hell don't we see mobs of African tribal peoples on zebras? What is it about the primitive tribes of Africa that refuse to evolve? I know at many points over the last thousand years these tribes witnessed other cultures trek through their land on horseback. And yet, they look at the zebras and don't make the connetion. Is it the stripes? Tell me it must be the stripes because by all definitions its a FREAKIN HORSE! Throw a saddle, or a piece of leather, or something on that animal and ride it!
You want intimidating? How about 55 spearchuckers on zebraback! How about that? That would be the new standard of cool. Cowboys would look like sissies with their brown steeds. Having a zebra would be like driving a car with a custom paint job, plus your ride goes super fast and was field tested running from prides of lions.
I just don't get it. Witness to horse and rider occurances, sick of running around with bare feet on hard ass dirt, skinny as hell because you're walking EVERYWHERE, and surrounded by THOUSANDS OF STRIPED HORSES. Someone over the last, oh, 50 centuries should have scratched their head and said, "Call me crazy, but I think I can get on one of those."
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they tried. Maybe some do. But right now I'm doubting it ever happened, because if they would have made the connection (and they've had plenty of time to do it), there would be skyscrapers in Zimbabwe and there isn't. Evolution in itself must be a power granted to some cultures in greater capacity than others.
