My Last Post From Duluth
I went out last night and abused alcohol. I'm not proud of it, but I'm not going to sit here and lie and say I felt great this morning either. My dear friends helped me every step of the way, ensuring that my last day here in Duluth would be a blur of dizzy spells, cold sweats, and stomach rumblings. I will miss Duluth, but most of all I will miss the people here.
I never thought I'd leave this place. After moving around so much for so many years I've grown worn and tired, and was hoping that Duluth was finally a place I could call home. You see, I don't know what home is anymore, and haven't known a home for the last eight years of my life. Here was a beautiful city, full of really nice people and lots to do - and I'm leaving it. Why do I do this again and again? Money? Restlessness? The search for the perfect climate?
Here's what I'll miss most about Duluth:
1. My friends (you know who you are, if there's any confusion here you have my cell phone number)
2. Lake Superior
3. The view coming down the hill
4. Open Mic Night at Sir Benedict's
5. Seven Bridges Road
6. Enger Tower
7. Hawk's Ridge
8. The Lift Bridge
9. The good beer. The good food.
10. The cozy feeling of living "Up North".
But I also have things to look forward to. A new job, where I get to kick ass and do what I do best. A few extra bucks in my pocket. A new city to explore. And finally, the hope of a little less stress and some new inspiration to write a few songs. It's been forever since I've been able to feel weightless enough to make sense of my music and write anything, and there's nothing worse than feeling past due.
And lastly, I wanted everyone to know I worked with some extremely cool people. This was my desk this morning, and these are my business cards. The whole box of them.
