My First Post From Columbus
I've been here for three weeks now, and I've never been busier. I get up at 5:45am for work, and get home around 5:45pm, and just haven't had the time to sit down and write. I've only played guitar twice since I've moved, and that in itself is painful. So, here I am, telling the world that I'm going to blog, and promise to share on a regular basis the details of my journey through life. Comments are always appreciated.
Columbus is awesome. It's got everything you could want in a big city. We've got big shows that come to town, OSU is right here, lots of diversity and culture. Yet, at the same time the neighborhood I live in is this quiet little corner in the NW of the city where they like to hold a farmer's market on High Street, where any day of the week you can stop by one of the coolest irish pubs, coffee shops or little knick knack shops around. It's one of those "ideal" little strips with the cobblestone sidewalks and flower planters, shops with white wood trim, crosswalks every 45 ft where traffic actually stops for you. And it's two blocks away from my house.
And my house is pretty kick ass. It was built in 1860 and gutted to be remodeled a few years ago. New oak floors, stainless appliances, granite counter tops, fireplace - I've never had it this good. It's nice to finally see the Volvo parked in a proper garage. That yard is huge, and there's plenty of sticks and squirrels to keep Noche busy all day. She's adjust pretty well, but there was that one day when she rolled in poop a few times. I have no idea what she was thinking there, she's never done that before.
The new job is great. It's nice working for a company that has the brand equity that Jegs has. They're pretty well known to anyone who knows cars, so we've got a pretty loyal customer base. I got tickets the other weekend to a drag race we host, and Megan and I went down to the strip to watch Jegs take first place in one of the fastest cars I've ever seen. I believe its the first time I've ever seen a car go over 220 mph.
All that said, that transition has not been a breeze by any means. Relocating my life is one of the most stressful things I've done, and this is like the seventh time. I'm tired of it. And each time I move there's more bank accounts, utilities, miscellaneous financial entities, and random services that need my new address. It's crazy trying to keep it all straight in my head, God knows I write nothing down ever.
And it's been tough not knowing anyone again. Megan and I have each other here, but that can be a pretty hard thing when we're so dependent on each other for entertainment. Some days we'd kill each other but then we wouldn't have anyone to play games with. We look at furniture a lot. Right now we've got no couches or dining room stuff, so we eat on the floor a lot.
I still have stuff in boxes all over. I don't feel like unpacking them all, and part of me says that if it doesn't get unpacked in the next few months I know I obviously don't need it and I'll throw it away. I hate having shit. I have waaaaaaay too much shit.
I miss Duluth. I miss my friends there. We had awesome friends that we would have barbeque parties with, and we'd drink beer and wine till we couldn't stand it anymore, and people would play Guitar Hero, and Noche would run around...we'd meet at Luce or the Brewhouse or Sir Bens, we'd laugh at each other and ourselves, and make fun of people way cooler than us. My friends would come see me at open mic nights, and I would feel comfortable enough to make an ass of myself on a stage with a guitar, and I'd play just for them. My friends -
